Sorry for the day's delay in posting this. No excuses!
I kinda see elements of most of the plot types in this episode:
--Overcoming the Monster...With the monster being the temptation of the reward money.
--Rags to Riches...Both Grace and Soapy seem to qualify here.
--Comedy...According to the definition, Grace appears worse than she is and Kid is certainly described as being a bad guy, plus Kid is thrown into a state of confusion and bewilderment.
--Voyage and Return...Kid certainly went on a trip to a foreign place but I'm not sure he learned things about himself and the world around him that he didn't already know.
--The Quest...Heyes is certainly trying to achieve the goal of freedom for his partner, and the obstacles in his way are both the actions of Chuck Morgan and his feelings for Grace.
--Rebirth...Kid was under Grace's spell but was able to extricate himself though the intervention of Grace and Heyes. The description of Rebirth says The hero's escape from his predicament can only occur through the actions of other positive forces. In this plot, the healing power of love can be a liberating force. What is notable about the Rebirth plot is that the main character's imprisonment is the result of something in his own psyche. This seems to pretty much sum up Kid's role in this episode.
The only plot type I don't see represented in Tragedy.
So what plot types do you all see in The Shell Game?
