Apparently a hurricane is about to hit southern Britain. I hope all of you across the pond are staying home and staying safe. Sounds like the weather's about to get rough!

Yep, this morning they predicted windforce 10-11 for the northwest Dutch coast. It was kinda funny because the journalist was all hyped up, acting as if he had the best story ever and the man from coastguard was not impressed at all. By neither the weather or the journalist.
I am glad I'm in the east, though winds are pretty strong here too. I suspect there'll be a lot of damage reports because many trees still have a lot of leaves.

Said storm turned out to be something and nothing in our area. Perfect windsurfing weather today though! Surf's supposed to be pretty big tomorrow too.

I was thinking of you, Frankie! Glad things turned out well for you. Didn't realize the storm would also affect the continent--glad you're okay as well, Radiogaga. Hope the Londoners are well--heard it was worse up there.

Thanks for the good wishes, Ghislaine. We've been OK here in the north. But they seem to have had a bit of a rough time down south. Hope it gets weaker and weaker as it crosses the Channel into Europe. Hope we'll all then soon see the last of it. But the hurricanes we have over here, though nasty, are not as horrendous as the kind you get across the Pond. In fact, I think we can't even call them real hurricanes at all - just very high winds and wild storms.
Me, I'm already craving next summer!

Thanks for all the updates, radio, Frankie and Alice. Hopefully someone in London will let us know how they are doing. Hope everyone is well.

I hope everyone's doing all right in the storm. Stay safe, stay warm and stay dry if you can!

And this was Wijk bij Duurstede, earlier this evening Fortunately, nobody was injured, just a lot of damage.
Something tells me we'll get a rough autumn.

A tornado in Europe?! Do you get many of those?
Glad to hear no one was hurt!

Maybe not as often or as big in the USA but yes, we do get them. But then, we suffer from strong winds very regularly. It's usually not as devastating as the tornadoes in the US can be - they're more an inconvenience. *g*
BTW, here's an impression of the storm we had last week. This was filmed in the western part of the country - it was a lot quieter in the east.

As a Londoner I can report that...I was stuck in the basement during all the hoo ha.
I am told it was a tad windy.
It blew over two green lawn chairs in my garden and one stalk of corn has bent slightly sideways. My car is hidden beneath a pile of leaves but the trees have many more where they came from.
I am told by people who were actually 'up top' that it got a bit wild but nothing to compare with...The Great Storm of October many years ago. I imagine as the wind blew someone put the kettle on and every one had a nice cuppa

From the look of it, we're now preparing ourselves for even worse weather. It's really stormy again but now they're even closing the Oosterschelde, which, according to the news, has not happened since 2007. Here in the east it's pretty quiet again after a horrible hail storm - fingers crossed St. Nicholas and his helpers don't slip on the roof this evening!

That does not sound good, gaga. Keep us posted; it sounds like this is going to be one severe winter world-wide.

The coast line got quite a beating but all went rather well. Last night people were worried because the conditions were exactly the same as with the big 1953 flood. This morning the worries proved to be justified - Zeeland's water levels were the highest since 1953. But despite some floodings, there weren't as many problems or accidents as with the previous storm.

I'm glad our friends across the Pond got through things largely alright. I hope it will settle down over there as well as over here, but this planet is having its moods these days. HW

Hello all you lovelies across the pond...
I know this is a late reaction, but...
Can I just on behalf of my entire home city of Birmingham and - more importantly - my entire (usually dour) office send heartfelt thanks to Steve Emerson of Fox News (and the lady interviewing him) - for giving us one of the best belly laughs and on going source of making fun for a good while!!!

I went to the video, and many of the comments over there were quite acrimonious and political. This isn't a political site. Please use good judgment in commenting; I don't want that spilling over here.

Not a problem revered board mistress.
I content myself - as the boys would do - with a version of 'the look' in a Basil Brush look-a-like direction.
There you are.
If you ladies don't know the famous British media legend Basil Brush, you have something much more light-hearted to google.
[And for the Brits - "Ha Ha Ha!! Boom Boom". Gosh I used to love him when I was little. Sigh,]

Not commenting politically but I just watched the report and....
What total hog-wash.
And I just booked a train ticket to Birmingham this weekend. Shite.
