I've read fanfic stories where the boys celebrate Christmas and I've read ones where they barely acknowledge the holiday.

How do you see Heyes and the Kid celebrating Christmas?

And, if you want to share, how do you celebrate the holiday?

How the boys celebrate Christmas would depend on their circumstances at the time -- where they are, who they are with. If they were at Devil's Hole with the gang, I doubt there would be much celebration except maybe with alcohol. If they were just with each other, I think they'd acknowledge it. get each other a gift, have a drink of good booze, and that would be it. If they were with people who observed, I think they would be polite and observe as well. I can't see them going to church on their own volition, but if they were with someone who told them, be ready at such and such a time, and if it was easier to say yes instead of say no, they would go.

I don't think the boys have any deep religious feeling other than what they may have been taught as children, and what they get from the general culture in which they lived.

To sum up, the boys' observation of Christmas would be a response to whichever situation they found themselves in at the time.

Personally, I don't celebrate Christmas. It's just a slow time where I am very bored. There are a few good parties to attend, and that's a lot of fun. But the holidays are a time to do lots of cleaning and watch lots of videos. I'm always relieved when they're over and normal life can resume.

I think RosieAnnie said what I think about the boys and Christmas.

As outlaws, they would celebrate with drinking and partying - a good reason to get drunk.  Heyes and Curry would probably buy each other a gift, if they had the means (a town to shop) and money.

While on the road to amnesty, they are starting to mature and wouldn't be necessarily just a reason to party.  Then again, they may not have had the funds to drink heavily and buy gifts.

If they received amnesty, I can see them celebrating Christmas more traditionally.  They would want to blend in with society.

I celebrate Christmas by singing in a choir on Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Day, my hubby's family comes over for dinner (we supply the ham and turkey while the others bring the dishes) and gifts for the kids under 18 years old.  Lately we've started a $10 gift exchange where the item can be stolen by the next person opening a gift.  And a day or two later, we celebrate a second Christmas with my family coming over for dinner and exchanging gifts with the children.  My favorite part of Christmas is the 12 days of Christmas, between Dec 25 - Jan 6, when the hustle and commercialism is over.

Oooh, I think whether the adult boys celebrate christmas depends entirely on the story mood. (This is back in the day when I wrote stories and didn't spend all my typing time filling in guff!)

* Boys celebrate christmas when you are trying to bring a lump to the throat and a wistful smile to readers lips with tales of outlaws taking presents to orflings, welcoming kittens in out of the snow, giving each other thoughtful gifts, talking about their Mas... etc

* Likewise boys celebrate christmas when you are aiming at a laugh and Kyle is chasing turkey, befriending it, settling on a nut roast - whatever

* Boys almost let Christmas pass them by when you are aiming at a lip wobble as one lonely outlaw stares at his cell ceiling wondering where his friend is, where it all went wrong - and suddenly bells from the distant town church remind him this is christmas eve, his blue/brown eyes stray to the dark skies outside his cell window where a single star flickers...

[Sheesh - maybe I should write that one!]

xxx

My christmas is on the quiet side being of barren stock but,

* Last night had honorary nephews (best and nearby friends have adopted) around to light candles on tree, open silly stockings, smear buttercream icing from shaun the sheep cake and toddler drool around, gaze at lights in garden, while their mums had a well earned glass of red

* Today - I'm still at work! Was up at 6.30 filling in guff - grrrrr.
This evening (this is for Ghis) will treat self to final ever episodes of Cabin Pressure
Colin will be singing in choir.
Will light candles on tree for when he gets back. Will wrap final pressie or two.

* Christmas day - set of for my mums about noon. Little glass of champagne pre-dinner. Dinner early evening. Then late Pressie opening (just silly stuff - we have all we need, so I tend to get tickets for shows for them.)

* Boxing day - not much. Still at mums being spoilt. May do a bit of VS. :)
Mum's boyfriend's sons / grandkids may come around.
(Though boyfriend a silly word for chap past 70)

* Day after that... To Sheffield on train. We have a musical booked. Then a walk around city lights. Then a meal out in a lovely italien. Train back to mums.

* Day after that. Drive home. Love cats. Fire up heating.

* Day after that taking godchildren out for pizza and cinema treat

Last year / Next year was/will be pretty much same except they come to us and you substitute Brum or Stratford on Avon for Sheffield.

I started my Christmas cooking yesterday with short breaks for visits from friends who dropped by and also a much needed hour of girl time (and wine) with my besties. Today, we are awaiting the arrival of our daughter. She had to turn back the day before yesterday because of a three hour stall in traffic, and heavy snow over the passes and, after seeing the traffic report yesterday, opted to leave her home in Denver at 5 am today. She's almost here!

Today we'll do some visiting and gifting with friends and then settle in to prepare tonight's meal. Our family has always done our special meal on Christmas Eve and the opening of gifts late at night. Tomorrow, we'll have more friends over for a turkey dinner. Then I'm not cooking for a week!

Merry Christmas to all my ASJ buds. Wish you were here to hug in person!!!
