| Kid4ever - Brrrr... your description of the weather is making me get chills! Poor Kid usually loses to Heyes, but to the rest of the Devil's Hole gang, too? LOVED how you made the poem fit the story! Aww... Heyes got a gift he wanted as a child and was still searching for. The Kid went to bed without checking his own boot? He has some lovely vision, though. Loved the historical facts, too!
Ty Pender - Jimmy Dean's Cowboy's Prayer was sweet! Loved the pictures and words to the Cowboy's Prayer, too. _________________ h "Do you ever get the feeling that nothing right is ever going to happen to us again?" - Kid Curry

| Maz - Dang does Heyes make a bad patient when he's not feeling well. Lucky for the Kid that they are in town with a doctor and not on the trail. I can so see a bored Kid picking up a book - only thing to do in the office - and glancing at it while supporting & keeping an eye on his sick partner. Love the diagnosis! _________________ h "Do you ever get the feeling that nothing right is ever going to happen to us again?" - Kid Curry

| Maz, what an old married couple our boys have turned into! They know each other a little too well. But there must be quite a few dedicated Heyesians out there who will gladly volunteer to nurse Heyes back to health. _________________ "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly."

| Maz: First off, I have to say that I'm glad I read this before my morning coffee was ready. You made me laugh out loud with this one! Heyes is a classic male patient and the Kid has little or no sympathy. Rosieannie is right; they are like an old married couple. I loved the diagnosis, too. _________________ *****************

| Inside Outlaw - Love stories when the boys are thrown into unique situations, especially when they have to care for a baby. I like how you had Heyes the one who handles the child and not the Kid. Most writers seem to put the Kid in more situations to care for children. This line is so true - “Funny the things you never even know you learned from your folks until you have reason to need ‘em." Great idea having them get a family Bible so the authorities know who to contact. Cute how they were thinking of different things the baby could grow up to be. Loved this one with the boys contemplating what they did and seeing them mature. _________________ h "Do you ever get the feeling that nothing right is ever going to happen to us again?" - Kid Curry

| 1) Maz Awww Heyes, my brave little soljer. Deep breaths. Oh, Maz. Snicker and snort. That was funny. Bless you.
2) InsideOutlaw Oooh, oooh, is this possibly inspired by three godfathers?? Aren’t our boys’ lovely honorary uncles. You’re going for the melting our hearts angle here, huh, Inside? Huge AWWWWW at the ending. Clapping and wiping away a sniff. Touching memories and regrets without over-egging it there.
3) Penski Ah the faithful board mistress – big hugs. Oh, boys – victims of a bank robbery, the irony, the irony. Course you know a Zeke, boys. Classic henchman name. Surely Kyle’s cousin will eventually reveal his soft centre, though? “…the customers and tellers shockingly began to leave and tend to the bank manager.” I think your over excited typing fingers have got a tad ravelled there, lovely one. Dear Heyes, what an actor he is. 4) ty pender Hurrah! You abandoned us for a month, but now you’re back. Oh dear, homework. Dunno that I’m up for excerpt spotting on a chilly Sunday morning. DeVore has a suicide pill? He IS a well prepared criminal mastermind, huh? Oh, Ty – you are dangling amnesty hopes in front of the boys and us. Plot tension alert. I spotted HH using a quote! I spotted one! And two! Spotted two! Proper sensible, western saga with a plot here, Ty. (Scratches head – where are the tub scenes?!!)

| Maz - Commented briefly on your story earlier this month, but wanted to say again that I enjoyed this playful vignette! Favorite lines: “I think I’m dying,” Heyes informed him. “You said that last night but you’re still here,”
InsideOutlaw - So many expectations-- What the guys expected for their futures, Heyes' great expectations of this little one, not to mention the expectations of the family traveling West in their wagons. What is it about a rugged outlaw with a baby that is so dang appealing? Wonderful story! Favorite line: “I don’t waste time thinkin’ ‘what-ifs’, Heyes, I’m too busy thinkin’ what now.
Penski - The irony of HH and KC being caught up in a bank robbery makes great fanfic fodder. I wonder how the Kid feels about Heyes playing dumb about safe cracking while he was being held at gunpoint? Loved it that Kid KNOWS that Heyes had already figured out the combination. Great closing lines.
Ty - I found a quote! Well, not exactly a "Great Expectations" quote, but I did find a near-quote from ASJ. Does that count?
Anne held out her hand. "You three better speak English or you're all in trouble.” (Curry to a house guard in The McCreedy Bust - "If you don't speak English I think we're all in a lot of trouble.")
I enjoyed the action of your challenge, especially in the segment with DeVore attempting to take the poison. Also enjoyed the Kid making the mental comparison between himself and DeVore. _________________ Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.

| Wow Ty that was fast...and so fitting too. Love the run through with the boys, the real reason they filmed out at Moab..National Geographic huh? And now we know where the rifle came from. _________________ Obstacles are put in our way to see if we really want something or only thought we did: Edison

| Catching up --- again! At least this month I have a good excuse.
Inside Outlaw: What a sweet and sad interlude. Even Heyes and Curry are defenseless before an infant.
Penski: Our poor heroes! They can't even go to a bank for legitimate business without getting involved in a robbery. Stands to reason that Kyle has a cousin who might've met the other members of the gang. At least Heyes was able to con the robbers.
Ty Pender: Very clever of you to work in quotes from Great Expectations!
And,
Ty Pender again! For February -- how did you do that so quickly? I like your explanation for all the holes in that episode. Very clever again! _________________ "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly."

| Great Expectations -
Ty – I’m getting confused with all the folks. Guess I’ll have to sit down and read the stories in order to remember who is who and what they did. I do like the Great Expectations’ quote.
The Rifle -
Ty – I do love this one and being reminded of this episode. Hmm… think I’ll have to watch it again soon. Cute watching how Roy, Joya, Heyes and the Kid brainstormed and came up with ideas for this storyline. Is Joya a real person who worked with Roy? If I would change anything about the story, I think I would use the names Pete and Ben when talking about the present and use Heyes and Curry when they are talking about the characters. Very clever! _________________ h "Do you ever get the feeling that nothing right is ever going to happen to us again?" - Kid Curry

Penski - thanks for your comments.
Regarding:
Great Expectations When you were producing 'A Sleight Case of Heist' for the 2014 Virtual Season, you added 'as they spurred their horses faster' to the last sentence of that story, to I believe capture the boys eager expectations about their future. Your addition is prescient now that everyone can see how 'A Sleight Case of Heist' fits into the Freedom of Press story.
The Rifle Glen A. Larson was the writer for High Lonesome Country. I didn't use his name because I believe he is still alive. Joya Jenkins is taken from the July 2014 Challenge story - The Competition. Likewise with Heyes and Curry (or is that Will and Walt?).
Best Regards.

| Penski:What are the odds that the boys would be held captive by Kyle's cousin? I enjoyed his attempts to convince his gang that they had Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry while Heyes worked hard to convince them they were mistaken. I absolutely loved Heyes knowing the combination at the end! _________________ *****************

| Ty Pender: Things are definitely coming to a head. I liked the Kid finally seeing Devore for who he really is and poor Anne Mayfield beginning to understand why she was widowed. Thank you for keeping up with this story so well. _________________ *****************

| Well, to make a pickernic basket Boo Boo proof you could try stuffing it with soggy tuna-mayo rolls and Tangy Toms. Jellied eel also works.

When I saw Ty's post I swear I heard Yogi say (in his best Yogi voice, of course), "But Mr. Ranger, sir - I have no idea how those rifles got trifled with and left on that pickernic basket!! How 'bout you, BooBoo?" _________________ "My task, which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel -- it is, before all, to make you see..." ~~ Joseph Conrad ~~ | |
