Remember when Christmas "exploded" the Friday after Thanksgiving and not sooner? Ahhh... for the good old days!! One didn't get sick of the commerialism of the holidays because they didn't see it from September - December like we do now.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving but on 5 December we celebrate St. Nicholas'. He arrives from Spain mid-November, but all the treats are already in stores only weeks after summer holidays are over. It basically means you have to buy your St. Nicholas stuff months in advance because by the time he actually gets here, you can't buy it anymore because it's been replaced by Christmas stuff.

Hmmm... interesting website - but it doesn't mention the bit where we are currently under scrutiny for being a very racist nation, does it? You will not believe how fierce the debate is about that at the moment...
