Alias Names

Lom gave Heyes and the Kid only the names Smith and Jones.
How do you think they can to choose Joshua Smith and Thaddeus Jones?

And do you think the governor knows their alias names or just Lom?

Boy this is a topic which is hit hard in the stories.

I have not made by definite decision yet.

Sometimes I feel they each chose them because they were names they liked and at other times I get to thinking...they are family names and that is why they were chosen. A way to connect them to who they are since they can no longer use thier surnames.

I remember Mistress Maz' story on this very subject. That worked for me!

I think other people have postulated that those chose their father's first names, or the first names of another family member. It could be that the first names were aliases that they'd used before, and were comfortable with. Or, in the religious tradition, maybe they opened a bible and picked the first name they saw.

I know this is an old topic, but it was one I was thinking about just yesterday.. I doubt they would be family names, as the boys seem to be too pragmatic for that. I imagine knowing they'd have to use them, for at least a year, they'd want names they were happy with and felt comfortable using. So Maz McCoy's story seemed eminently plausible to me. I really do like the names, and they seem to fit them, so good choice boys.
