Calico typed, disconsolately in the dark.  It was dark because a misguided energy optimisation policy meant every light in the place was motion activated and she was too fed up to leave her chair.   A whicker outside caught her attention.  Then, the sound of boots.  Then - light!  Blue and brown eyes blinked at the sudden flood of illumination their entrance had caused.

"How did you two get in without security passes?"

"How did we get past the locks?  Have you forgotten what we used to do for a living?" dimpled Heyes.

"I think she's forgotten everythin' 'bout us," groused the Kid.

"Of course she hasn't!" protested Heyes.  "She still thinks about us."  A pause.  "Well, she thinks about me.  And sometimes about my Pa."

"She don't write about us no more."

"That's true," agreed Heyes.  His dark gaze rested on Calico, reproachfully.

"I've been busy."

"Busy doin' what?" asked Curry.

"Writing a book.  Well..." Calico amended, "Editing a book."

"About us?" The Kid's eyes lit up with hope.

"No."

"Have you been moonlightin' - writin' 'bout two other fellas?"

"Of course not!"

"It wouldn't BE moonlighting if she was," mused Heyes.  "She writes about us in her evenings.  We're her moonlighting.  By editing this book what Calico's been doing is - daylighting."

"What is it about?" asked Kid.

"It's a technology handbook.  The proofs are here if you're interested."

Heyes pulled off his glove and let a slim finger run down the contents.  They flicked a page.  A pair of curious blue eyes looked over his shoulder.

"Why's that gal wearing a mask - is she an outlaw?" he asked.

"She's carrying out a particulate analysis," explained Calico.

"What's parti... What's that?"

"It's..." Calico sighed.  "It's a lot less interesting than her being an outlaw."

Heyes' clever eyes ran down a page or two.

"I hafta say, Cally, compared to the stuff you write about us, this is kinda short on laughs.  Why's this fella looking so worried?"

"He has chatter on his metal cutting process."

"Has he tried horse liniment?"

"Anyhow," Kid Curry abandoned his reading, and not a moment too soon in his opinion, "we rode in to make sure you weren't late with the poll this month."

"I'm doing it now," Calico reassured him.    "What d'you think THIS is?"

And the cosy October caitsh moonlit bandanny goes to...

Hey!

It goes to Inside Outlaw - and very well deserved.

Both Heyes and Preacher will be helping her write a gracious and eloquent acceptance speech.

Of course, before they can start on this, Heyes and the Kid need to deliver warming cuddles and thanks to everyone who played.

Including all those goats.

Baaaaaa.
