Watch A Fistful of Diamonds and answer these questions for Sunday's Chat on October 19th...

1) Does the episode set any - PREQUEL, MISSING SCENE, FOLLOW UP - bunnies a bouncing?

2) Any of the characters ripe for a VS come back?

3) Anything in the episode that is so visual it'd be a real stretch VS-wise ...?

4) Any favo(u)rite lines crying out to be used again and again in fanfic?

5) What on the episode has become canon?

Feel free to post comments in response to the above questions anytime!

Below are my comments that I first posted in the Chat session.

#1: Does the episode set any - PREQUEL, MISSING SCENE, FOLLOW UP - bunnies a bouncing?

There are lots of possibilities, in my mind. Prequels could be a) how the boys met soapy and helped him avoid prison, b) their trip to San Francisco, c) how Betsy connived her way into Augie's heart.

Missing scenes: What Augie did after killing his bank associate, how Lom heard about the robbery and ended up going to that town to find out what was going on, the discussion between Lom and boys about how to take Augie down, the discussion between Heyes and the Kid about how to fool Betsey, something where Betsey imagines all the fine things she is going to do in Europe--a daydreamy story from her POV.

Follow up: what the boys and Lom did after giving the money to Lom, meeting Soapy at his home again afterwards.

Oh, just thought of some other missing scene or follow-up possibilities: a) at the company where the diamonds are inspected for their quality and b) what happens to the mining engineer when he realizes he's been had.

#2: Any of the characters ripe for a VS come back?

Mike Road as Lom! He's my favorite Lom of all of them and I wish he'd been in the show more.

#3: Anything in the episode that is so visual it'd be a real stretch VS-wise?

The only thing that comes to mind is when Heyes kicks Kid's feet out of the way when they are in Betsey's room so he can pass by. I think that would lose the humor if just written.

#4: Any favo(u)rite lines crying out to be used again and again in fanfic?

Since I haven't seen this in a long time, I don't remember the specific dialog and hence can't think of anything off-hand.

#5: What on the episode has become canon?

Well, perhaps the part about Kid being a ladies man, even though he didn't have much success with Betsey. Also maybe the idea that Heyes, and Kid, are good at cons, since this episode shows them pulling one off again. And the fact that Soapy helps the boys out when they are in trouble.

#2: Bring back Betsy! She's cute, she's conniving, and she can be fooled.

And why not that mining engineer as well? I forget his name. He's got a great mustache, and he seems like a phony, too. Can't you just see him trying to pass himself off as an expert engineer for gold or silver mines as well?
