I've heard of some and others were easy to figure out. Loved the example for beef-witted. I hope no one on this board is from Essex, UK!* (FWIW, I live in Essex County in the US. )
*Meaning: Stupid, imbecilic. Origin: 1590s As in: The Only Way Is Essex is a TV show for the terminally beef-witted.
