The first westerns I ever got to read/watch are the cartoons and comics about Lucky Luke (the man who shoots faster than his shadow). As a result, several of my ASJ stories are inspired by Lucky Luke comics.

Out of curiosity - where do you as a writer get your inspiration from?

(and for the fun of it - Here's a Lucky Luke cartoon featuring Billy the Kid in English. It may explain a thing or two...)

Wow, I've never heard of Lucky Luke but after looking it up online, I now understand why, as it's originally a Belgian comic. I watched part of the cartoon video (don't have time for all of it) and it's cute. Very interesting to learn about a European impression of the Old West.

My inspiration comes from actual history as well as out-of-the-blue ideas that just pop into my head, and things in the actual series that get me to wondering. There really is no rhyme or reason.

I think I read somewhere that it never took off in the USA because of the many (rather racist) stereotypes. But apart from that, the comics do feature a lot of real characters and events. Another good parody is the movie "The Manituh's Shuh" but other than some of the arguments between the two main characters, there's not much you can use for an AS&J story...

Oh yes, Lucky Luke. I remember you saying you got inspiration from those comics. I never realized how popular this comic is. Wikipedia has a good write up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Luke

Looks like there were lots of TV and films from the comics. Now can someone who is British explain this? "The Giggle version had Luke's name changed to "Buck Bingo"." Okay, I get that The Giggle is a comic, but why Buck Bingo? Buck Bingo??

Most of my inspiration is from reading history. Occasionally an old movie sparks an idea.
