PostSubject: Writing fanfiction   Mon Jul 16, 2012 2:03 pm

I found this story in the Kansas City Star recently and thought others might find it interesting. Now let's see if I can actually get a link to work.

Very interesting article that is a nice summary of the entire fanfiction experience.

Edit: Hunh! I just discovered if one is not logged in, the link is not active; in that case, one has to copy and paste it into a browser. But if you log on, then you can just click on the link and go directly to the article. Weird.

Thanks for the link, Riders. Enjoyed the article, especially the reminder how certain classic works of literature have derived from other classic pieces. Very cool!

How very interesting. Thanks for posting this. How often have we alluded to sitting around swapping stories? We just do it virtually. There's nothing new under the sun, eh?

Very interesting article! It's good to see someone writing a balanced and informative article about fan activity. Too many times, coverage of fan activities has turned into "look at all the strange people."

I know I'm a little late to chime in on this, but thanks for the link. It looks like fans and authors have finally become a whole lot more respectable sm

From the online BBC News Magazine today, news that Amazon will soon begin paying fanfic writers real $$$ for stories in three fandoms--a short article and very interesting video:

Very interesting, Ghislaine. Thanks for sharing. I would have similar concerns as one of the ladies in the video, about protecting the rights of the original writer of a story/television show/movie, etc.

And The New York Times also had an article today about the above-mentioned news :
