When the Porterville Methodist Church Orphanage loses its funding, Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry are coerced into assisting the Minister and the head of the school to transport eight young boys to another orphanage on the other side of the state. En route they face a variety of perils and at least one of the children isn't what he seems. Having grown up in an orphanage themselves, Heyes and Curry are confident they can meet the challenge.
